The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Except perhaps for eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” the mayor added. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”
The event, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The swine, contributed by a local firefighter, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its 2025 word of the year.
A New Life
Six Seven the pig is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become a cherished method to begin the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and strong coffee as they toasted Six Seven’s big moment.
