The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on BBC
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th season, announced by the broadcaster.
An upcoming six-episode season written by the show's creator starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress expressed excitement about the comeback, saying she was "thrilled" about the series' return. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be reuniting together next year."
The last season wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted more than 17 million audience members. Speculation about a new season have been widespread ever since, but official word only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Vicky McClure's role, and Adrian Dunbar's part continue tasked to tackle misconduct within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most sensitive case to date."
Fresh Face and Intricate Plot
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charming officer known for takedowns of criminal networks, faces allegations of abusing his position to act as a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still active in the background, the teaser hinted.
In a statement, the creator said: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many fans track the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be coming back for a seventh installment."
He added: "Corruption in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been compelled to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called being part of the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Beyond the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call dear friends."
"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure stated: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Eager to work with the creator, Martin and Adrian again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be working together next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
The drama premiered in the early 2010s and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the new season will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a close, and producers indicated at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the network confirmed on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
