President Trump Welcomes Families of Attacked Military Soldiers to White House
Former President Trump revealed on the weekend that he has invited the family of a Guard member killed last week to come to the White House.
He added that he contacted her family and they were “devastated”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a attack on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Memorials across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The commander-in-chief stated he’s discussed a White House visit for the loved ones of both soldiers of the state National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a hard experience, arrive at the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump addressed the press. “And similarly with Andrew, recover or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees came together over the past few days at a local school in the state to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s national effort to assist policing efforts in DC.
Remembering the Soldier
“She was the individual that educators wished for. She behaved with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a positive energy that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her previous school, stated to the press. “She was caring, considerate and always ready to assist people.”
Service arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Legal Actions and Government Changes
Law enforcement have charged a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with one count of first-degree murder and charges of violent assault while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the Trump administration to pause refugee claims and halt providing visas to possessors of Afghan passports.
Condition of Wolfe
Wolfe, a native of the city, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of his local high school, per the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on a news program.
Attorney general Pam Bondi stated on the program that she aimed to visit his relatives.
Impact of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from her high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she definitely had fortitude,” the governor informed the audience at the service. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
