I thought I edged it - Carey on review reprieve.

Australia gloveman Alex Carey admitted he felt he had nicked the ball when he was reprieved on DRS on day one of the third Ashes Test against England.

Following his reprieve on 72, Carey went on to make a superb 106 to aid the home side post 326-8 at the end of play in Adelaide.

The Key Moment

The home side were 245 for 6 when Carey looked to play a cut to the bowling of Josh Tongue.

England were convinced they had a wicket, certain they had heard an edge, but on-field official Ahsan Raza remained unconvinced.

After skipper Ben Stokes opted to review the decision, the footage reviewed by TV umpire Chris Gaffaney showed a significant spike however this registered prior to the ball had reached the bat.

Gaffaney also said he was of the opinion there was a space between the bat and the ball.

As a result, Carey was given not out.

"I thought there was a feather or some sort of noise when it passed the bat," commented Carey.

"If I was given out I think I would have reviewed it, probably not confidently. It made a convincing sound near the bat."

Controversial 'Snicko'

Discussion has swirled about 'the Snickometer' throughout the series after a series of unclear moments.

Bowling coach David Saker hinted England may escalate this most recent incident to a higher level with the match official Jeff Crowe.

"I don't think we've done anything about it so far but after today, maybe that might go a bit further," Saker remarked.

"We've had doubts about it throughout. The focus should be on cricket, not technology failures. That's the situation."

His hundred was his first in the Ashes.

It was also an heartfelt moment for Carey, whose dad passed away in recent months. Carey's wife was in tears in the crowd as the batsman marked the occasion by looking to the skies.

"A hundred on home soil with loved ones present is unforgettable," stated Carey.

Regarding the overturned decision he continued: "Snicko obviously didn't line up. That's cricket - you get the rub of the green sometimes."
