A fundraising initiative is aiming to send a Palestinian lullaby to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to provide aid to people in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.

An Opportunity for Support and an "Unlikely Coup"

Musician and artist Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to support Palestinians this festive season. He acknowledged the potential for an unlikely festive coup.

“It would be incredible if that came to pass, yes,” he commented. “I wouldn't be completely disappointed if it fails to, Christmas singles are a thing unto themselves.”

Defiant Message of Self-Determination

Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's resilient spirit.

“It occupies a deeply meaningful spot for a lot of people,” Barghouti shared. “The message is that I would prefer a dignified death than spend my life without freedom. That’s the main theme of the song; we desire to exist a respectful existence that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”

Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians

The track was produced following a solidarity show held in September. First conceived to be captured during the live event, the rendition was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.

The diverse array of artists contributing to Lullaby features a group of acclaimed names from the industry. All took part in the benefit event, which successfully generated a significant sum for charitable causes.

Final Touches and Availability

Lullaby was brought to life by a group of music creators. The song showcases a fusion of the heritage language with new English lyrics.

The organizers behind the campaign have emphasized that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a charitable pot. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.

“We don’t have a specific target,” a representative explained. “We will pursue the maximum achievable. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. It all goes out to those in need in Gaza.”

The situation in the territory was characterized as its profound destruction, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings said to be in ruins or severely impacted.

“In that context, a handful of millions is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is primarily raising awareness for this issue and showing the human dimension of the story.”

The song is scheduled for release on Friday. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made accessible to view on a major video platform from mid-December.
