Arne Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat
Arne Slot conceded that it's natural for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve matches, representing the club's worst streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant backing from management,” the coach commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but if you are working as a coach and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the first time I’ve been in a difficult position but it's necessary that we improved our results.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:
“We talk a lot. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they don’t call me all the time each day to say they trust me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I perceive the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this match yet so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Problems and Squad Response
Slot highlighted recurring failings from his team in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't have to wait to consider it. I'm beyond feeling anger internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the words.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I’m a fan, and I’ve seen this club since I was young.”
“In recent memory, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team enduring a spell such as this with performances like these.”
He stated, “But we continue to wear the crest on our shirts. And until that badge is gone, we’re always going to compete.”
“Our aim is to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
